He was predeceased by: his father Milton Tanner; and his sister Belinda Theriot. He is survived by: his mother Nelda Bartzen Howard; his wife Dina M. Tanner; his children, Mark A. Tanner (Rhandie), Howard D. Tanner (Misty), Marshall D. Tanner and Lena J. Tanner-Linkinhoker (Louis); his brother David E. Tanner (Angela); and his grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, Hannah, Jeremy, Brandon, Miranda, Madisen, Marshall Jr. and Stormie. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
