He was predeceased by: his parents, John S. Hanel and Freida Zalesky Hanel; his wife Molly Smesny Hanel; his daughter Connie Hanel; and his sister Geneva Hanel Parick.
He is survived by: his close friend Lola Johnson; his children, Rhonda Hearod (Donnie), Johnny Hanel, Jr. (Sharon), Brian Hanel (Angie), Carla Cotton (Allen) and Mark Hanel (Lisa); his grandchildren, Beau Hearod (Courtney), Connie Gary (Jarod), Danielle Hanel, Mason Hanel, Baylea Cotton, Jaxson Hanel and Austin Hanel; his great grandchildren, Bennett Hearod, Camille Gary and Molly Gary; and his brother Leroy Hanel (Maria). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
