He was predeceased by: his wife Teresa Miles Lawton; his parents, Olin Lawton and Zealon Ratliff; and his brothers, Jimmy Lawton, Butch Lawton and Charles Lawton.

He is survived by: his children, John Olin Lawton, Sr. (Gigi), Justina Nemoy and Jennifer Garner; his grandchildren, Portia Smith, Asia Lawton, John Olin Lawton, Jr. and Preston Lawton; his great grandchildren, Harper Smith and Grayson Smith; and his siblings, Michael Lawton (Jan) and Sandra Lawton.
