He was predeceased by: his father Joe C. Thompson; his wife Margaret "Peggy" Dunlap Thompson; his mother Margaret Thompson; and his brother John P. Thompson. He is survived by: his children, Michael (Debbie Thompson), Jere (Carolyn Thompson), Pat (Amy Thompson), Debbie (Bruce Nelson), Kim Thornton, Chris (Susie Thompson) and David (Lee Thompson); and his brother Joe C. "Jodie" Thompson, Jr.. He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to the UT Southwestern Medical Foundation, Ex Students' Association of the University of Texas at Austin, and Catholic Charities.
