Irene Mack (Mack) Gilbert Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Irene Gilbert of Dallas, Texas, who passed away on March 4, 2024, just 9 days short of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Irene Mack Gilbert, a cherished matriarch, community pillar, and embodiment of resilience, passed away after a lengthy nillness. Born on March 13, 1934, in Two Egg, Florida, Irene's early years in the heart of the Panhandle's farming community laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work, determination, and a profound commitment to family.

Growing up with six siblings, Irene quickly became acquainted with the rigors of farm life, contributing to the family's production of cotton, peanuts, and tobacco. The culture of her upbringing meant that school often took a backseat to the seasonal demands of planting and harvesting, instilling in her a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the land.

In her teenage years, Irene's adventurous spirit led her to Tampa, Florida, where she visited her father and stayed for six months. This journey marked the beginning of a series of bold moves that would define her life. Eventually settling in Panama City, she welcomed three children into the world Elmira, Arthur, and John. Seeking a brighter future, Irene moved to Ohio, temporarily entrusting her children to her grandmother's care as she laid the groundwork for a better life.

In Ohio, Irene's heart found its match in Paul Gilbert. Their marriage brought two more children, Paul Jr. and Gladys, into the fold, creating a blended family that would become a testament to love, resilience, and unity. Irene's dedication to her family saw her reaching back to bring her first three children to Ohio, where she worked tirelessly as a domestic worker to provide for her family.

Irene's professional journey included notable years of service at Kettering Hospital, where she was honored for her dedication. Even in her advanced age, she remained focused on caring for the elderly, a testament to her boundless compassion and empathy.

A tireless worker, Irene found joy and solace in the garden. Her efforts to create visual expressions of God's beauty through her home and church landscapes brought joy to all who passed by. Irene's flowers and gardens were a beacon of beauty and a reflection of her love for nurturing life. She also found pleasure in cookinbg and is known far and wide as an excellent cook and event planner. She helped found an organization called "God's Helping Hands" and as often as possible they wanted Miss Irene to cook for a fund raising event.

In 2010, Irene moved to Dallas, where she lived with her daughter Elmira, Goldie toook over care for Miss Irene since the summer when she required long tern care. Surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and possibly even great-great-grandchildren, Irene's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and the indomitable spirit of a woman who, against all odds, ensured her family's success and happiness.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Paul Gilbert, Irene leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we remember Irene Mack Gilbert, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by unwavering dedication to family, community, and the simple yet profound joys of life.
