He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Kay; his daughter Irene Tang; his son-in-law Dr. Erwin Tang; his granddaughters, Christine and Carolyn Tang; his sister Shu Chin Chan; and his nieces and nephews, Eddie Chen, Albert Lui, Andy Lui, Morris Chen, Boo Cheng, Wendy Hou, Vivian Underwood, Diana Keitz and Ellen Kinney. He was also cherished by relatives, friends and caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Howard H Chen to Prestonwood Baptist church, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston or Samaritan's Purse.
