He was predeceased by: his parents, Monroe Winston Townsend, Sr. and Leona Ezell Townsend; and his sisters, Ruth Ann Simpson and Merllean Kelly. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Townsend; his children, Melvin Ray Townsend, Jr., Randall Winston Townsend, Cynthia Renee Staner and Cheryl Denise Townsend; his grandsons, Timothy Townsend (LaWanda), Derek Townsend (Ayanna) and Hunter Staner; and his brothers, Monroe Winston Townsend, Jr. and Sonny Townsend. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren.
