“Marlene was one of the only true friends my brother ever had. She never used him and always encouraged him to make better choices--though he rarely listened. Upon his death, she went with us to scatter his ashes in front of the lake house my parents used to own (new owners gave permission) on a cold rainy day in January. She was a good person.”
