He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesus Maldonado and Cruz Maldonado. He is survived by: his wife Esperanza "Hopie" Maldonado; his siblings, Elvira Gomez, Aurora Miller, Jesse "Chuy" Maldonado, Gilbert "Gil" Maldonado, Pete Maldonado and Rey Maldonado; his children, Mary Magdalena Naranjo (Willie), Ruben Hernandez, Johnny Joe Maldonado, Jr. (Marina), Patricia Hernandez (Ronnie), Richard Roland Maldonado (Rosie), Esmeralda "Meldy" Hernandez (Joe) and Brenda Garza (David); his siblings, Frank Maldonado, Alicia Maldonado, Lupita Redd and Janie San Miguel; his brother-in-law Lupe Cardona (Dolores); and his close friend Mike Bazan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren.

“I loving memory of my Uncle Juan Jose Maldonado, I got to talk to him for awhile I enjoyed every minute. And before in 2017 I got to visit him at his home with my Aunt Hopie. I didn't realize how much family ment to me I missed so much because I live in Dallas. But I cherish the time and remembered how my grandma wanted us to see one another. I have many memories with the Maldonado family. We will never forget you or our love one who are no longer with us. My condolences to the Maldonado family.”
