He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gilberto Ayala and Maria Isabel Lira Serna; his siblings, Santa Tijerina (Alma Ledesma Serna), Gilbert Ayala (Jeanette), Angel Garcia (Diana), Blanca Recio (Joe) and Janie Garcia (Rick); and his children, Jesse Serna (Jennifer), Ernest Serna (Michelle Sanchez), Jessica Rios (Juan), Jennifer Esquivel (Jose), Jimmy Serna (Tracee) and John Serna (Ashley). He was also cherished by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
