Iglesia Mendoza Obituary
Iglesia Jose Mendoza, age 87, of Converse, passed away peacefully in the early evening hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at her home, in the loving care of her family. Iglesia was born on July 23, 1933 in the Philippines to her parents, the late Elias Jose and Rita Marquez. As a beautician in her family owned business she caught the eye of a young Navy Sailor whom she met and then married Apolonio Mendoza, on June 21, 1960, in the Philippines. Being blessed with three children, they traveled the world as a proud military family, and made memories that will last a lifetime.
Those who knew Iglesia best will remember her kind and compassionate spirit. Iglesia was a dedicated wife, loving mother and nurturing grandmother. Her beautiful smile and kind soul attracted people to her. She adopted her children's friends' as her own, opened her home and her kitchen. They referred to her as "Grandma" and was loved immensely by all. As the caretaker of the family she was the glue that kept the family together.
Iglesia taught her children and grandchildren the attributes of patience and a forgiving heart that will leave behind a legacy of love, kindness and hospitality that will forever be etched in their lives.
Iglesia is survived by her husband, Apolonio whom together recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary; three children, Mylene Decker of Helotes, Cezar Mendoza, and wife Sharon, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sandra Martins, and husband Antonio, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Stephanie Exum (Rusty), Chase Decker, Jermaine Mendoza (Alma), Jasmine Mendoza-Rios, Anthony Martins, and Cristelle Martins; great-granddaughters, Matisse and Luna; and by numerous family in the U.S. and the Philippines.
