He is survived by: his children, Gwendolyn Fleming Spjut (Swen Eric Spjut) and Virgil Lee Fleming Jr. (Kimberly Faye Fleming); his grandchildren, Erik Fleming Spjut (Laura Anne Spjut), Lauren Nichole Spjut, Lindsey Marie Spjut and Adam Fleming; and his great grandchildren, Luka Anne Spjut and Ezra Noel Spjut.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Virgil's honor.
