He is survived by: his former wife Frances Kelley; his daughter Carol Stroup (James); and his grandchildren, James Christopher Stroup, Jeffrey Leon Stroup, Justin Andrew Stroup and Jessica Leanne Bolton. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
