He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Poenitzsch and Alvina Kansteiner Poenitzsch; his brother Kenneth Poenitzsch; his niece Raena LaFont; his great-niece Ashley Blackwell; and his brothers-in-law, Cooper Johnson and Tony Hauerland.
He is survived by: his granddaughter Tori; his great grandchild Wyatt James; his wife Carolyn Poenitzsch; his son John Poenitzsch (Diane); his granddaughter Katelyn Poenitzsch (Cole Hoskins); his great grandchildren, Wyatt James Henneke and Josie Ruby Henneke; his siblings, Barbara Johnson, Diana Young (Doug), Russell Poenitzsch (Dolores) and Daniel Poenitzsch (Peggy); his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Poenitzsch Pfannstiel (Kurt) and Shirley Hauerland; and his close friends, B. J. Malatek, R. C. Kleiman, Jimmie Kleimann, George Little, Bill Pavlicek, Karl Ed Valenta, Gerald Heintschel, Janice Heger and Kim Koehl. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
