He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack C. Methner and Elizabeth A. O'Rourke; his siblings, William J. Methner and Mary E. Methner; his brother-in-law Donald G. Shockley; and his grandson Michael J. Methner Jr..

He is survived by: the mother of his children Jane E. Tywater (Kenneth P. Tywater); his sister Judith A Shockley; his sister-in-law Barbara G. Methner; his children, Patricia L. Methner, John P. Methner II, Dr. Michael J. Methner (Lisa), Stephanie A. Seegar and Kevin M. Methner; his grandchildren, J. Chase Marney, Kendra M. Marney, Melody A. Methner (Kennedy A. Methner) and Noah (Bailey Lindley); his great grandchildren, Easton C. Marney and Hunter R. Kettler; and his friend Loretta G. Burrow.
