He was predeceased by: his parents, Harrison Gilliam and Pauline Gilliam; his wife Kay Gilliam; his son Lance Gilliam; and his brother Horace Gilliam (Gail).

He is survived by: his daughter Laura Self of Grapevine; his granddaughter Sierra Gronwaldt (Kevin); his brother Winston Gilliam of Lubbock; his niece Amy Ferguson (Billy); and his nephews, Gary Gilliam (Gwen), Rusty Gilliam (Deborah) and Joel Gilliam.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Burl's honor to: The Grapevine Heritage Foundation.
