He was predeceased by: his wife Juanda; his sons, Lynn Murphy and David Murphy; and his grandson Chris Caldwell. He is survived by: his children, Rodney Murphy (Suzanne) of Abilene and Darlene Foster (Buddy) of Midlothian; his sister Jean Byers of Abilene; his grandchildren, Brandon Caldwell, Rebecca Caldwell, Adam Murphy (Jami), Kip Murphy (Kristin), Michelle Shover (Dean) and Michael Foster (Nikki); and his great grandchildren, Jayce, Kennedy, Grace, Kinsley, Carter, Zane, Emily, Lucas, Zachary, Zeke, Mackenzie, Landon, Luke and Grant. He is also survived by his parents, one brother.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Texas Baptist Men's Builders or Hendrick Hospice Care.
