He was predeceased by: his parents, Neal McDowell and Ella McDowell (Miller); his parents-in-law, Burney and Mona Warren; his brother Garry McDowell; and his siblings-in-law, Jonnie Payne, Betty Alexander, Burney Warren Jr., Bill Warren, Buddy Alexander, Buddy Brantley, Alvin Payne and Marty Clifford.

He is survived by: his wife Linda McDowell of Clifton; his children, David McDowell (B. J.) of Clifton and Shannon Thaxton (Jeff) of Sequim, WA; his grandsons, Michael Neal McDowell, Dayton James McDowell and Jax Thaxton; his brother Gerald McDowell (Joyce); and his sisters-in-law, Ellen McDowell, Patsy Clifford, Peggy Brantley, Lola Warren and Joyce Warren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
