It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Jo Burton (Cleveland, Texas), born in Houston, Texas, who passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, William "Bill" Shafer and Thelma Minze Shafer; and her siblings, Bill Shafer, Randy Shafer, Cora Blystone, Juanita Steagall and Edith Greenhouse.

She is survived by: her husband Morgan "Bubba" Burton; her sons, Allan Burton (Cristal), Guy Burton (Shelia) and Kevin Burton; her siblings-in-law, Allan Stegall, Donna Shafer, Sandy Shafer, Robbie Hartfield and Jo Baker (Curtis); her grandchildren, B. J. Burton (Lacy), Krystal Hauck (Eric), Kelli Hardy (Louis), Donald Burton (Courtney), Morgan Ramshur (Jimmy), Chet Burton (Sarah), Tana Burton and Kade Burton (Miranda); her great grandchildren, Gus, Jasper, Luke Hardy, Alex, Chase Hauck, Waylon, Holden, Colsen Ramshur, Brycen, Tenley, Allyson Holifield, Briggs Burton, Garrit, Hagen, Brennen Burton, Kamree Burton (Dalton), Fayth Burton (Cooper), Desirae Barlow and Gracie Knight; and her great great grandchildren, Eastynn Burton, Rhyker George and Holsynn Burton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Bubba and family, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I often think back to all my memories of Plum Grove and Mary Jo was a big part of them. I was thinking of her recently as I am in the middle of crocheting a new baby blanket, I would go to the store, she would explain the directions, then I could work on my project until the next hiccup. When I get confused to this day I listen to her in my head and we work it out. Over 50 years, getting closer to 60 and I still need her help. Prayers.”
