He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Warren DeSpain and Katy Bell McAnalley DeSpain; his siblings, Doris Stimac, Marjorie Shaffer, Joyce Hansbro, Raymond DeSpain and Eddie Elroy DeSpain; and his daughters, Teresa Kay DeSpain and Jennifer Leah DeSpain Hansbro.
He is survived by: his wife Hilda DeSpain; his son Bobby DeSpain (Loretta); his grandchildren, Richard Ivins, Jr., Jana Marcussen, Seth Hansbro, Katy Rice (Jakie), Kirsten DeSpain (Wesley Dawe), Emily DeSpain, Kristen Martin and Kandance Blackstock; his great grandchildren, Richard "Tripp" Ivins III, Peter Rice, Carson Jones, Jaymen Allen, Blake Martin, Beaux Martin and Evelyn Blackstock; and his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Malone (Edwin) and Eva Conner.
