Mark Ball lit a candle

“Mel was truly a a valued friend. Although I knew Mel previously, when I went to Wylie in 1996 our friendship grew. We were rebuilding and Mel was always so gracious by including us in scrimmages, track meets, and coaches gatherings. He was an outstanding coach but I will always remember our phone calls, our visits at clinics and coaching school, and his welcoming smile whenever I saw him. He was a great entertainer too with his guitar mini concerts and hilarious stories. I will miss him greatly.”

“In loving memory of Raymond Mel Maxfield, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Mel was the best Coach I have worked for in 25 years in education. He was a Great Coach and an even better person. He always came to the District Golf Tourneys every year to support the Golf Team that meant the world to me and the golfers. I wasn't able to make it to Funeral but you have my condolences.”

Jonette Albright wrote a sympathy message

“Mel meant everything to Forney. He was an example of a true gentleman to our sons and thoughtful and kind to parents. He was our “Mel” whether at booster club or from the stands when randomly a guy was say, “come on Mel_____. Monday morning quarterbacks always knew the solutions and I will never forget his talks. I don’t know how he did with so many people telling him what he should do. I remember when he and Jill started dating. The Moms were so excited! You will be missed ❤️🙏”
