He was predeceased by: his parents, John Perry Whiting Sr. and Amanda Whiting; his son Shaunta Keith Carter; and his siblings, Mack Eroy Jenkins and Avis Munson.
He is survived by: his daughter Shadvosha (Shawn Hodges); his grandson Shaunta Brisco; his siblings, Dorothy (Herbert Carter), Alberta Whiting Collins and Regnal "Don"; his wife Carolyn Whiting; and his siblings-in-law, Lula Jenkins and Earl Munson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
