Hilda C. Wright Obituary
Hilda Schkade Wright, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 94.
Hilda was born in Albany, Texas to Alvin John Schkade and Louise Emma Sohns Schkade on June 3, 1930. In 1948 she married Johnny Clyde Wright and together they raised four daughters. Her most important job was that of a homemaker and mother.
Hilda always had a smile on her face. She was humble, gracious, and dearly loved her family.
As a young mother of four girls, she prepared three meals a day, hand-sewed clothing and made certain that they were in church, Sunday School…and of course the church Christmas pageants.
Early in her career, Hilda worked as a typesetter for newspaper publisher H.V. O'Brien and also for newspapers in Victoria and Conroe. She worked for Norvell and Miller Grocery in Cisco and Klein's Supermarket in Tomball. Later on she joined Schkade Brothers Operating Co., where she worked for 35 years, checking pumps and keeping records for the Railroad Commission. She earned a reputation as the company's best pumper, known for her precision and dedication. She retired at the age of 81 from her work in the oilfields.
If she was expecting guests, they could count on a home-cooked meal (homemade bread if lucky!). They would have prayed first, ate well, and laughed heartily sitting at her kitchen table. To her grandkids, she was Granny and they loved her spunky personality and witty sense of humor. She loved to laugh and we couldn't help but laugh with her. Hilda had a special fondness for the arrival of spring, and in every season of her life, she found joy and purpose. She put her talent as an excellent seamstress to generous work later in life sewing bags that would be filled with toiletries and school supplies and sent for ministry work oversees.
She is survived by four daughters, Jennie Brandt, Judy C. Gearner, Jewell Wright and Shirley Cowan; one sister, Violet Schkade; one brother, William Schkade; seven grandchildren, Brent L. Gearner, Lisa Glueck and husband Chuck Glueck, Jerry Cowan, Becky Stockman and husband Les Stockman, Amber Krier and husband Ryan Krier, Laura Been and husband Ryan Been, Casey Zenkovich and husband John Zenkovich, twelve great-grandchildren; Wes Glueck and wife Jessica Moran, Wade Glueck, Riley Cowan, Ryleigh Krier, Makena Krier, Nate Perkins, Andrew Perkins, Elizabeth Perkins, Emilee Stockman, Jamiee Stockman, Bailey Been, and Austin Been; and four great-great-children.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Eric Schkade, Bennie Schkade, Oscar Schkade, Clarence Schkade, Richard Schkade; three sisters, Anna Schkade Tankersley, Fluorine Schkade Jeter, and Ella Schkade Welch; and one grandson, Damon Collins.
Services to be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Kimbrough-Jacobs Funeral Home at 300 W 9th St, Cisco, TX 76437. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery.
Rest in peace, Granny. You will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
