David Kenneth Bonney Obituary
David Kenneth Bonney, age 87, of Cisco, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023.
Mr. Bonney was born on October 30, 1935 to the late K.E. and Marye Bonney in South Boardman, Michigan. A gifted, self-taught musician, David excelled in playing multiple instruments from a young age, including both the guitar and mandolin. At the age of 17, he joined the armed forces and served in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the National Defense Service medal. After wartime service, Mr. Bonney served in the Army Reserve as a truck driver. Following his military career, David worked as a machinist and as a long-haul truck driver, before retiring to his "Walk-About Creek" land near Cisco.
Mr. Bonney is preceded in death by his sister Sue Barrett and a brother, Stuart Bonney. He is survived by two brothers: Jon Bonney and wife Kathy of Calico Rock, Arkansas, and Steve Bonney and wife Patty of Lafayette, Indiana. Mr. Bonney is also survived by five children: Val Bonney and wife June of Dallas, Texas, Patrick Bonney and fiancée Sharla Riddle of Mineola, Texas, Colleen Bonney and wife Karen of Driftwood, Texas, Jeremiah Bonney of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, and Marianna Bonney of Ravenden, Arkansas. He is survived by his grandchildren: Tish Bonney and husband Dave of Ontario, Canada, Vanessa (Bonney) Spann and husband David of Longview, Texas, Jessica (Bonney) McKinley and husband Chris of Mineola, Texas, Derek, Liam and Kai Bonney of Ravenden, Arkansas, and Emma and Jeremiah Bonney, Jr. of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, as well as great grandchildren Julia, Logan, Morgan, Cassidy, David Paul, Jon, Knox, Kelsee, and one great-great grandson, Tucker.
His ashes will be scattered by the Muskegon River in Michigan. For those wishing to pay respects to Mr. Bonney, the family suggests a small donation be made to the Cisco, Texas or Muskegon, Michigan high school bands in memory of David Kenneth Bonney.
