Charles Preston Chick Jr. Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Preston Chick, Jr. passed away at his home in Cisco on January 18, 2024. Chuck was born in Abilene, Texas to Charles Preston Chick, Sr. of Gonzales County, Texas and Ina Beatrice Cox Chick of Mertzon in Irion County, Texas on December 8, 1937. Chuck grew up in Cisco, Texas.

After his father's passing from a cattle truck hauling accident in 1955, Chuck followed his father's passion for trucking at the age of 18 to support his family.

Chuck graduated from Cisco High School in Cisco, Texas. His mother "Bea" encouraged him in school to learn to type and use a typewriter. By 1960, Chuck proudly joined the United State Army. He was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas and Korea. When he arrived in Korea, his platoon was asked if anyone could type. Being honest, he was the only member of the platoon who raised their hand and it set off a year of clerical work that ultimately insulated him from any conflict.

After his service, he married Patsy Marie White of Eastland on March 16, 1963. They had two children Lisa Gail born on August 11, 1970, and Craig Preston born on January 3, 1973. Ultimately, they divorced in October of 1974. Lisa and Craig Chick were born and raised in Eastland.

Chuck also raised a daughter Johnna Lee Graham Salazar born on August 20, 1969, in Pueblo, Colorado, whom he affectionately raised and cared for as his own.

On September 13, 2004, he married Olivia Pelin Ando, with whom he spent his remaining 19 years.

Chuck went on to drive his own big rig for interstate transportation conglomerates like Wales, Tandy Transportation and Warren Transport. His years of experience and skill often provided him with the benefit of hauling more complex wide loads. He felt at home on the interstate roads across the United States behind his Kenworth clocking millions of road miles over a 60 year career, seeing all 50 states numerous times over and again with only one serious accident cause by icy road conditions.

He and Olivia retired to Cisco where he spent his time keeping up with current events, national conservative political issues and sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Texas Rangers.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Preston Chick, Sr. and Ina Beatrice Cox Chick. He is survived by his children Lisa Gail Chick Gambrell and her husband Greg Gambrell, Craig Preston Chick and his children Eloise Grace and Cullen Preston, his daughter Johnna Lee Graham Salazar and her husband Francisco Salazar, his sister Judy Sue Chick Jessup and her husband Wade D. Jessup and their three boys, Scott and Enedelia Jessup, Kirk Jessup, and Ryan and Elisa Jessup.

Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 22, 2024, at First Christian Church in Cisco, with Sean King officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 22, 2024, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene.
