He was predeceased by: his sons, Michael Valadez and John Valadez; his parents, Heliodoro, Jr. Sontoya and Aurora Verdeja Sontoya; his brother-in-law Daniel Cordova; and his nephew Joel Castilleja.
He is survived by: his wife Christine Rosales Sontoya; his children, Norma Jean Sontoya and Rudy Sontoya, Jr.; his grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Sontoya, Valentino Arrellano, Mariah Sontoya, Rudy Sontoya, III, Michael Valadez and Joe David Valadez; and his siblings, Lee Sontoya, Ida Sontoya and Linda Cordova. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
