He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Mitchell and Rose Etta Johnson Mitchell; his former wife Marlene Mitchell; and his siblings, Joe Bill, John Naylor, Rosemary Reynolds and Bette Jane Hodges.

He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Mitchell of Childress; his children, Richie Mitchell (Raedella) of Borger and Pam Smothermon (Ronnie) of Odessa; his grandchildren, Amy Cartmell (Chad), Chad Smothermon, Chace Mitchell (Jennifer), Bobby Mitchell (Amy), Mandi Joyce and Steven Mitchell (Alexandrea); his stepchildren, Clay Seal and Darla Leveridge (Miles); his sister Jacqueline Elliott; and his sister-in-law Nell Mitchell.

Memorals may be made to a local charity of choice.
