He was predeceased by: his parents, Emilio Barrera and Hortencia Barrera (De La Garza); his grandson Baldemar "BJ" Barrera Jr.; and his siblings, Olga Almaras, Raymond and Oscar Barrera.

He is survived by: his children, Emily Barrera of Charlotte, Baldemar J. Barrera of Charlotte and Adam Barrera (Maria) of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Olivia Grace Barrera, Mark Franklin Barrera and Emilio Gavino Barrera; his brothers, Emilio Barrera (Glenda) of Laredo and Eliseo Barrera (Rachel) of Charlotte; his sisters-in-law, Frances Barrera and Pauline Barrera; and also, Brittany, Ryatt "Jose", Matthew Reese, Mary Lou Gonzales, Ricky and Jeanette Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that masks be worn at all times during the visitation, mass, and burial and adhere to social distancing.
