He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. Thomas (Wanda Jean Garvin) and Irumagawa. He is survived by: his wife Judy; and his children, Kelly, Thomas and John. He is also survived by his five grandchildren.
During his time as a student at OU, he played a pivotal role in establishing the world-famous OU Storm Chaser program; co-writing and managing the original computer program, actively chasing tornadoes and making significant contributions to the field of meteorology, both scientifically and in the eyes of the public.
