He was predeceased by: his wife Carla McSwain; his father James Lee McSwain; and his mother-in-law Sylvia Davis. He is survived by: his son Dathan Tipton; his mother Mildred Hooper McSwain; his daughters, Kirby McSwain and Miranda Young (Cory); his grandchildren, Grady, Carla and Layton; his siblings, Stevie McSwain (Lori), Ronnie McSwain, Kevin McSwain, Kelly McSwain (Donna), Marlie McSwain (Jessica), Kristie Tipton (Dathan) and Kimberly Salinas (Mike); and his brothers-in-law, Ronny Davis (Tammy), Ricky Davis (Dana) and Kevin Whitton (Tammy). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
