He was predeceased by: his wife Susan Smith; and his parents, Charles Eugene Smith Sr. and Ora Smith Donald. He is survived by: his children, Jamie Colvin, Donald Smith Jr. (Danelle) and Derek Smith (Crystal); his grandchildren, Jackie Carmack (Justin), Taylor Colvin, Zach Hurtt, Blake Colvin, Kennedy Colvin, Cooper Smith and Max Smith; his great grandchildren, Logan Carmack and Aiden Carmack; and his sister Dorothy Martin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
