It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jose Cortez of Celeste, Texas, born in San Benito, Texas, who passed away on October 11, 2021, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Claudio Cortez and Rosaura Abrego Cortez; his son Hector Cortez; and his brothers, Fidel Cortez and Abel Cortez.
He is survived by: his wife Maria Cortez; his children, Danny Cortez (Nel) of Sugarland, Ramiro Ruiz (Rosalinda) of Edinburg, Jose Lionel Cortez Jr. (Pam) of Georgetown, John Cortez (Mary) of Grapevine, Rachel Grande (Bryan) of Corpus Christi and Carina Warner (Neil) of Carrollton; his grandchildren, Danny, Nikki, Krystal (Luke), Kristopher, Michael, Gabriel, Daniel, Adrian, Vivian, Olivia, Matthew (Taylor), Felicia Marie, Lauren Elaine, Marcus, Adriana, Nathan, Jacob, Isaac, Jeremy, Melissa, Isaiah Loyal and Samuel Jay; his great grandchildren, Annika, Reyna and Cameron; and his nephew Fidel Cortez of Alamo.
