He was predeceased by : his parents, José Manuel and Josefa Garcia (Gutierrez); his wife Lucinda Juarez Garcia; and his siblings, Imelda and Delfino.

He is survived by : his children, Juanita G. Prazak (Michael) of Castroville, Mary Lou Rangel of San Antonio, José F. Garcia (Marivel) of Laredo, Jaime H. Garcia (Irene) of Laredo and Jesus M. Garcia of Uvalde; and his siblings, Olivia Byers (Bob), Mary Archer and Reynaldo (Tina). He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
