He was predeceased by: his parents, Preston Lyons and Mamie Lyons; and his children, Eddie Elder and Patty Cook. He is survived by: his wife Maxine; his son Preston (Audrey Lyons); and his sister Jackie Bean. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
