He was predeceased by: his parents, Matias Rangel Salazar and Aurora Santos Salazar; his parents-in-law, Tony and Oralia Burell; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Burell and Frank Fuentes.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Salazar of Castroville; his son Matthew; his daughter-in-law Allyssa Salazar of San Antonio; his daughters, Marisela (Brandon Whiting) and Mallorie Salazar of Austin; his grandchildren, Gavin Whiting, Kael Salazar, Ellie Shank, Kyle Salazar and Xiomara Whiting; and his parents-in-law, Gerald Burell, Pearl Burell, Alma, Rick Yanez, Evelyn, Alex Mendoza, Melinda Burell, Eloise Burell and Mary Lou Fuentes. He is also survived by the oldest of two sons.
