He was predeceased by: his former wife Joanne Prine Shivers; and his brothers, Henry Grady Jr. and Linward Shivers. He is survived by: his wife Tiajuana; his daughters, Melinda (Cecil Jones) of Dallas and LeAnn (Sammy Shields) of Tyler; his stepdaughter Laura Alice (John Hale) of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Adam, Deanna Hargrove, Brandon Hargrove, Jake, Michelle Shields, Daniel Higbee and Jackson Hale; his great grandchild Harrison Hargrove; his sister Doris Clark; his siblings-in-law, Ray Jordan (Olivia), Beverly Shivers and Gay Jordan; and his friends, Juanita Clinton, Carol Vincent and Lynn Rogers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse or the Central Baptist Church in Carthage, Texas, where he was a member.
