He was predeceased by: his father Alex William; his pet Margie Marie Kornegay (Shafer); his sister Lynda Knight; and his nephew Douglas Stewart. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou (Wisdom) of Gause; his daughters, Cathy Tooley (Chris Mueller), Amanda Sulzbach (John) and Julie Kornegay; his grandsons, Jacob Whittington of The Woodlands, TX. and Benjamin Whittington of The Woodlands, TX.; and his siblings, Margrett Brashear of Granger, Patricia Shaw of Gause, Cheryl Stewart of Milano and Gary Kornegay of Gause.

Memorials may be made to the Milano and Gause Volunteer Fire Departments or Embrace Hospice.

“I worked with Mike as a young drilling engineer at Devon Energy. He was tough on me but I enjoyed the challenge of earning his respect. Behind that tough drilling superintendent exterior I would catch a smirk and a great sense of humor from time to time. After I left Devon i realized that he was preparing me for great responsibility in my career and I can’t thank him enough for the lessons he taught me. You will be missed greatly.”
