He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Chong Poo and Margarita Salinas Chong; and his brother Samuel Chong. He is survived by: his wife Hilda G. Chong; his siblings, Guadalupe Banda, Sergio Chong Sr. and Graciela Uresti; his children, Minnie Haley, Samuel Chong (Graciela Y. Chong), Betty Chong-Menard (Joseph Menard) and Nancy Chong Ruesch (Richard Ruesch); his grandchildren, Brenda Lee Wagner, Crystal Lynn Keigher, Dr. Samuel Lee Chong (Kara Bufford Chong), Dr. Brandon Lee Chong (Adriana Salinas Chong), Christian David Menard (Joanna Lyles-Menard), Crystal Danielle Menard, Alexandria Sen Chong and Sabino Esquivel; and his great grandchildren, Derrike Wagner, Dreyden Wagner, Claire Chong and Kaylin Chong.

Visitation was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and at 4:00 PM at the Buena Vista Burial Park (5 Mc Davitt Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78521). A funeral service was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Angels.
