He was predeceased by: his parents, Marta Morales Dorsett and Archie John Dorsett; and his nephews, Abel Garza Jr. and Gabriel Elizalde. He is survived by: his wife Dora Hilda Aguilar Dorsett; his children, Sadie Vanessa Dorsett, Juan Manuel Dorsett Jr. and Betsy Lee Dorsett; his daughter-in-law Gloria Dorsett; his grandchildren, Carlos Moreno III, Miranda Alexa Moreno, David Lamar Moreno, Brianna Vianey Tapia, Gustavo Tapia Jr., Alexander Michael Dorsett and Riley Marie Dorsett; and his great grandchildren, Carlos Moreno IV, Azariah Julian Diaz and Melina Marie Moreno.
