He is survived by: his wife Ofilia Rivera; his sons, Michael Rivera and Daniel Abasolo (Lara Tomlin); his son-in-law Joe Ernest Rivera (Jeannette Rivera); his grandchildren, Jacquelyn Selvera (Christopher Selvera), Joe Ernest Rivera Jr. (Lourdes Rivera) and Robert Rivera (Brenda Rivera); his great grandchild Lisa Freeman (Frederick Robinson); his grandson John Rivera (Betty Rivera); and his great grandchildren, April Marie Standridge, Stephanie Rivera, Eric Rivera (Kindel Byrne), Norma Myers (Mike Myers) and Sister Estella Taylor.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A rosary was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Darlene Mouser Funeral Home (945 Palm Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78520). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the St. Luke's Church (2800 Rockwell Dr, Brownsville, TX 78521). A procession was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at the Rose Lawn Cemetery. A burial was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery (4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX 78526).
