He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Bernard and Manila Geoffroy Bernard; and his wife Bettie Bernard. He is survived by: his children, John Bernard II (Kimberly) of Bridge City, Julie Choate (Michael) of Groves, Robin Bernard of Nashville, Jean Magnuson (Mark) of Bridge City, Jeff Bernard (Diane) of Little Elm and Jay Bernard (Jennifer) of Port Neches; and his sister Madeline Bowers (Roger) of Dallas. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
