He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Goerlitz and Olivia Frieda Goerlitz (Gregor); and his brother Daniel Goerlitz. He is survived by: his children, Jason Goerlitz of Brenham, Kim (Jeffery Meyer) and Shelia (Raymond Abel III); his siblings, Ernie Goerlitz (Alice) of Giddings, Texas and Elaine (Michael Kroll); his sister-in-law Betty Goerlitz of Brenham; and his grandchildren, McKenzie Meyer, Madison Meyer, Ashley Abel and Hayden Abel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Rehburg in honor of Gene's lifelong commitment to the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
