He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel D. Petty and Lilly N. Petty (Faught); his wife Bobbye Jean Bolinger; and his siblings, Marvin Petty and Lois Miller.
He is survived by: his sons, Keith Petty of Elm Grove and Brian Petty of Brady, Texas; his grandchildren, Kadee Petty, Lindsey Barker, Kyanne Jones and Grayson Petty; and his great grandchildren, Grady Jones and Clancy Jones. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
