He was predeceased by: his brothers, Guadalupe, Madaleno, Gregorio, Jr., Jesus and Jose Zapata.
He is survived by: his wife Elia Vargas; his children, Sonya Robles (Lionel, Jr), Elario Zapata (Rosario) and Debbie Contreras; his grandchildren, DJ, Vincent, Raque, Magdalena, Mariella, Alejandro, Daniela, Miguel, Rose, Jonathan, Darion, Nicholas and Sam Jr.; his sister-in-law Alvina Ledezma; his siblings, Manuel Zapata, Sr. (Esperanza), John Zapata (Anna), Roman Zapata, Lidia Chapa, Juanita Zapata and Adelina Zapata; and his son Sam Ramos, Sr.. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
