He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Schaffer and Mary Schaffer (Farris); and his children, Jimmy Schaffer, Cathy Schaffer and Carla Diana Bond.

He is survived by: his former wife Patsy Faye Harding; his wife Pasty Schaffer of Bowie; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Mary Schaffer), JT (Jordan Schaffer), Samantha (Ryan Thiessen) and TJ May (Jeileigh Schaffer) of Bowie; and his great grandchildren, Patience, Malach Longraf of Phoenix, AZ and Chandler Schaffer of Aubrey.
