He was predeceased by: his parents, Emerson Ashworth and Bessie Lewis White; his wife Matilda Ashworth; his children, John T. Ashworth, Jr., Lewis Ashworth and Linda Ashworth; and his siblings, L. C. Ashworth, Adolph Lewis Banks, Earnestine Colton, Bea Spikes and Adell Marie Banks.
He is survived by: his children, Janice Ashworth, Michael Ashworth (Martha Ashworth) and Mark Ashworth (Jacinta Ashworth); his sister-in-law Emma Spikes; and his niece Ambika Seastrunk. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
