He was predeceased by: his parents, Filomeno Rangel and Melchora Valdez Rangel; his daughter Rosanna Rangel; his siblings, Valentin Rangel, Humberto Rangel, Andrea Molina and Eluteria Lopez; and his grandsons, Martin Olguin Jr., Pallbears, Mark Olguin, Jonah Rivera, Marcus Rangel Jr., Joseph Rangel Jr., Felo Rangel, Ruben Martinez Jr., Brandon Salles and Mark Olguin Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Santos M. Rangel; his children, Gloria Rangel, Joseph Rangel (Shannon), Marcus Rangel (Tomasa), Sylvia Rangel (Fernando) and Filomeno V. Rangel III (Michelle); and his stepchildren, Joann Carisalez (Martin), Margaret Estrada (Reynaldo), Anna Cavazos (Joe Ben), Eddie Martinez (Lupe), Jose Martinez, Ruben Martinez (Hopie) and Raymond Martinez (Junetta). He is also survived by 46 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
