He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Cleveland Shanks and Clara Hightower Shanks; his spouse LaRue Tate; and his siblings, Clim Shanks, Doyle Shanks, Grover Shanks, Howard Shanks, Autov Shanks, Wade Shanks, John Shanks, Norene Shanks Guill, Eva May Shanks and Jimmye Ruth Shanks Burks.
He is survived by: his children, LaShara Shanks Nieland (Andy) of Abilene, Stanley Shanks (Sherry) of Dallas, Diana Shanks Armstrong (Larry) of Midland and Carla Shanks Gonzalez (Eugene) of Farmers Branch; and his grandchildren, Zachary Nieland, Zane Nieland, Ben Shanks, Luke Shanks, Jeremy Pinner, Lindsey Marrow and Lauryn Bellar. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
