He is survived by: his children, Curtis Short (Janelle), Teresa Smith (Chaffin), Gary Short (Heather), Tony Sorge (Stacey) and Kathy Hearn (Brent); his sister Connie Melton; his stepsister Mary Graves; his grandchildren, Maija Stewart, Jeremey Burke, Leah Short, Lauren Wilson, Dylan Wilson, Hannah Jenkins, Garrett Wilson, Kayden Smith, Brianna Schmidt, Destiny Rubalcava, Garyn Short, Jonathan Griffin, Mirna Negovetic, Jaime Frank, Brittany Frank, Jordan Sorge, Triston Hearn and Grayson Hearn; and his great grandchildren, Colton George, Bella George, Wyatt George, Clara Burke, Cooper Burke, Copelyn Carey, LaKynn Carey, Parker Carey, Weston Wiest, Jaxson Weist, Beckam Jenkins, Brinley Jenkins, Breelyn Jenkins, Chandler Schmidt, Dionisio Rubalcava, Amari Davis and Carter Hearn.
