He was predeceased by: his parents, Fernando Vela and Anita Gonzalez; and his siblings, Armando Gonzalez, Fernando Vela, Rosa Flores (Anselmo) and Bertha Orzuga.
He is survived by: his wife Petra Vela of Benavides, Texas; his daughters, Nelda Diaz (Jesus) of San Juan, Texas, Nancy Vela of Houston, Texas and Ana Rodriguez (Roland) of Beeville, Texas; his sisters, Maria Elena, Lupita Izaguirre (Franco) and Ramona Rodriguez (Pedro); and his granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Garcia, Leah Isela Rodriguez and Oliva Roxanne Diaz. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
